DOUGLASS

I Graduated from Douglass High School in 2004. I attended Pratt Community College 2004-2006 and McPherson College 2006-2008. I attended Wichita State University 2018-2020. I am currently attending University of Kansas for my Master’s in Special Education. 

Bachelors in Physical Education and Health. Certified Medical Assistant with limited scope X-Ray. Bachelor’s in Elementary Education.

I have attended workshops with Ruby Payne on Emotional Poverty. This is a GREAT workshop and book. I plan to share this information with you and your students. I am Pathways and LETTRS certified. I have attended professional development and workshops on Structured Learning in the classroom and Autism Spectrum Disorder. 

Prior to teaching, I was a paraeducator in Douglass for 3 years. I worked towards my teaching degree while I was a para. Once I was able to teach, I began my teaching career for Butler County Interlocal, placed in Andover, KS. I taught Special Education there for my first 3 years. I have coached in Douglass for 15 years so my ultimate goal was to be in the district where I coach and my own children attend. Last year was my first year in the Douglass district as a teacher! I have loved it. I continue to work under Butler County Interlocal as a Special Education Resource teacher. 

I have been married to my husband Shawn since May of 2011. I married into being a mom of two boys. They were 3 and 1 when we began our relationship. Shawn and I have two daughters together. 3 of our children attend Douglass schools and 1 attends Andover Central High School. Parker James is a Junior, Landon Pierce is a Freshman, BryseLynn Melvimae is a fourth grader, and Briggz Oaklee is a first grader! Our family is very sports oriented and that is where we spend all of our time. The newest passion of Bryse and Briggz is horses, 4H, and Rodeo. We have two dogs, 3 chickens, 3 horses.
